Family Day Weekend

Here in Ontario, we celebrate Family Day in February. For the first Family Day, Jevon and I spent the day with Jen and Wil at Yonge and Eglinton. It was a fabulous day, and we still talk about it. Note: Stephanie also reminds me that we spent another Family Day skiing - a trip I loved but forgot that it was over Family Day weekend... sorry Steph.

Every subsequent Family Day has been spent in Huntsville. The province allows people to go ice fishing on Family Day weekend without a fishing permit, so we use an auger to poke holes in the ice, and Opa sets up fishing rods for the little boys to go ice fishing.

This year was another fabulous Family Day weekend. There were four big boys and two tiny babies to make the house feel full. Even with two babies to pass around, there were always willing arms waiting to hold them. I think Uncle Geoff was trying to figure out how to get Joey's car seat and Alexa's bassinet in his car without anyone noticing. And Grammie tried to convince me that Alexa could stay with her.

Big cousins Charlie and Sam gave Alexa tons of cuddles all weekend long. Charlie especially made sure that the rest of the little boys were "quiet" when she was sleeping (as quiet as four small boys can be).

Grammie's friend Joan gave Alexa this adorable shirt. It says "one & only" - perfect for the first van der Meer granddaughter.

Opa has a perfect lap for cuddles with his little grandbaby.

Daddy made sure he got to cuddle his girl every once in a while - he had to get his turn when all of the aunties, uncles, grandparents and cousins weren't hogging the baby.

Joey was feeling a little fussy, so Grammie made sure he had lots of cuddles. Poor little guy looks so distressed! His little tummy wasn't feeling very good.

A cuddle with his cousin helps fix the fussies.

Grammie in her element: six beautiful grandkids. Oldest to youngest: Charles, Sam, Jack, Oliver, Joseph, Alexa.

Charlie helped Mummy get Alexa ready to go outside. We spent an entire morning on the ice, putting holes in the ice to go ice fishing. Auntie Ange held Mummy's arm on all of the slippery spots so that we would stay safe.

Mummy's Auntie Liz and Uncle Rick stopped by for a quick visit. It is lovely that guests can each get a baby to hold right away!

Cousin Jack looks big in comparison with his little cousin.

We had another little baby photoshoot of adorable. The little Sweetpea and Pickle are too cute for words.

Handsome Joey had some photos taken on his own. I love this picture - he looks so serious. With his little arms out, it seems like he's describing something of vital importance.

Two cute cousins. Joey seems a little disturbed that Alexa is trying to eat his shoulder. She was getting hungry, but we just couldn't resist one more picture before Mummy fed her.

Joey with his Mummy and Auntie Ange. He had just had his hair washed, and it was sticking up in a little faux-hawk.

Mummy with Alexa and cousin Joey. I had to have one last cuddle before we all went home.

Ummm... I would just like to add that there was ONE family where we went skiing. That is all.
