It's a slow day for Mummy and Alexa. We napped, watched a movie, saw some trashy TLC tv, and saw one of our midwives. Alexa is doing well and so is Mummy. Breastfeeding is going much better these days, and Alexa is gaining weight like a pro (Grammie says we can't call our daughter chubby, but she does have some pretty serious cheeks and she's developing some adorable rolls).
Mummy moment: I can't quite believe how good I feel these days after the caesarian. The first week was pretty rough, but I'm doing so much better now. Those first few days, I couldn't fathom how I was possibly going to manage, but things got better quickly and now I'm feeling nearly normal.
I'm not sure what we would have done without all of the help. Grammie and Grandma helped out the first few days when I couldn't get out of bed on my own. Jevon has shouldered much of the work, too - especially when we were at the hospital and I couldn't move out of the hospital bed at all. And we can't forget the rest of our families and our friends who have dropped off meals, called or emailed to see how we're doing, and sent gifts. We've been overwhelmed by generosity.
Grammie offered to come back to help out, but I feel pretty good and thought that Alexa and I could handle being on our own for a little bit. I'm sure that there will be days in the future when I'm feeling uncertain and I'll need her to bolster me up then. To be quite honest, today feels a little bit like Alexa and I are playing house. I'm sure it will feel less surreal as time goes on.
I feel bad for Jevon having to go back to work already. When we were planning our time, two weeks seemed like an eternity, but now it has come and gone in a flash. I think he misses his little girl - he messaged me around 10 and asked me to send him a picture of the baby. He did mention that his first day back was going fairly well, though, so that's promising. We will settle into a groove as a family as we get used to our new routine.
