Jevon suggested that we do a bit of shopping and then head to Toronto Island for some sun and sand. Off we tottered to Lee Valley. We parked. Both of us looked at the parking meter. Both of us forgot to feed it.
$30 parking ticket.
Then off to the island. Stood in a huge line for the ferry and finally got over there. We made it over to the beach and set up with the blanket and umbrella. We spent time playing in the water and lying on the beach. Alexa didn't like Lake Ontario nearly as much as she enjoyed either Lake Huron or Fox Lake. Lake Ontario is pretty chilly. But she enjoyed the beach and liked having her feet dipped in the lake.
We stayed at the island for a few hours, and then decided to wander home. We missed the ferry by a matter of minutes, so we decided to get some Haagen Dazs ice creams. They were super expensive and much smaller than the ones in the grocery store, but they were delicious. We sat on a little bench and ate our ice creams while we waited for the ferry.
Ferry back to the mainland and walked back to the car. At the car, we realized that my glasses case was no where to be found. I was wearing my prescription sunglasses, but could not find my regular prescription glasses. We realized that I had left them on the ice cream bench.
I went to the ferry office to find them. No dice. They suggested I ask the ferry operator when the ferry got in a half an hour later. I did, but they hadn't seen them either. They did offer to let me ferry over to the island to check there. Alexa was hungry, so they let me run back to the car and send Jevon in my place. They even held the ferry back for Jevon.
Jevon got on the ferry and went back to the island. He sprinted (in birkenstocks) to the bench. The glasses were not on the bench. They were not in the food kiosk where we bought the ice creams. Jevon ran back to the ferry just as it was pulling away. The next one was not due to arrive again for an hour.
Jevon waited an hour on the island. I went back to the ferry office but still nothing. I drove the baby around for an hour waiting for Jevon. By the time we got home, it was three hours after we originally left the island, we hadn't had dinner, it was past Alexa's bedtime and she was shrieking.
And I've lost my glasses (thankfully, I have a spare pair).
Yesterday, we were just not meant to leave the house.
