How time has flown! It's a cliché, but so true. My maternity leave is nearly halfway over. Summer is here and my baby is growing.
My days are filled with a new kind of joy as I watch Alexa learn about the world around her. I see the world anew.
Alexa and I have mostly settled into a routine of activities, outings and naps. She is a very easy baby; I am lucky! It does mean that during those episodes when she is unaccountably fussy, I find myself second-guessing my parenting skills. I have heard that to be a parent is to reach a whole new level of self-doubt, and I believe it to be true.
I treasure the Tuesday visits that I have with my sister and her kids. My three-year-old nephew, Ollie, and I are closer than ever because of the quality time we get to spend together each week, and I'm getting time to watch wee Joey grow. I love it. I can't wait for school to be over so our other sister can join us and all six cousins can spend that lovely time together.
I worry about my husband, who has been facing some stress at work and carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. He's a great dad and I know he wishes he could spend more time with Alexa. I have been enjoying my maternity leave so immensely that I feel a little guilty that he doesn't get to have the same type of time with our Little Miss. I'm looking forward to some weeks of summer vacation when he can spend all day with her.
The swimming pool at the bottom of our street opens for the summer today. Look out for some pictures of a baby in a swimsuit - coming as soon as this rain lets up.
