Baby Mia!

We are thrilled to welcome baby Mia Michelle VandenBerg to the world!

As many of you may remember, my labour with Alexa was long, and ended with a caesarian. My labour this time was as different as could possibly be! On Friday, I had lunch with Jevon and his friend Dean, went to Costco, went to Ikea, walked to day care and picked up Alexa, and came home for the evening. Contractions started to pick up during the cold walk to and from day care, but were very manageable. At 7:00 PM, Alexa and I had a bath together, and then Jevon and I had dinner and had a bit of a rest. I was sure that it would be a very long night, so we wanted to get some rest in.

My parents arrived just after 10:00 PM, and things were really starting to change at that point. It went from very manageable, to something like being on the front of a runaway train. We called the midwife and told her to meet us at the hospital. My dad stayed at home with Alexa, while Mum and Jevon took me to the hospital.

We arrived at the hospital at 11:05, and Miss Mia Michelle made her grand entrance a mere 40 minutes later.

I had been positive that I was having a boy, so when I inspected my baby I was surprised to see a little girl! I even made Jevon double check. It took us several hours to decide on her name, we had a few top picks in mind. We watched her for a while, and Mia suits her best. We are so thrilled with our two daughters.

She weighed in at 6 lb, 10 oz. She's a tiny slip of a thing. Her big sister Alexa was 8 lb, 11 oz at birth, so the outfits we brought to the hospital were quite big!

We were in the hospital for nearly 24 hours. Much of that was waiting for a pediatrician to inspect Mia. They needed to make sure everything was okay because her birth had been so fast. Apparently, there were a few sick kids in the hospital, so our healthy girl had to wait a few hours.

Grammie, Opa, Alexa, Grandma, Grandpa, Auntie Ange, Uncle Geoff, and cousins Charlie and Sam visited Mia in the hospital. Today, Auntie Em, Uncle Dean, and cousins Jack, Ollie and Joey are coming to meet her.

So far, Alexa has been lovely with Mia, bringing her toys when she cries. Grammie, Alexa and Mia had a lovely cuddle on the couch this morning.

The hospital photographer took some lovely pictures of Mia. Here she is at a mere 12 hours old.
